Tell us about your health improvements or weight loss since coming to the Wytheville Community Center


Mike and I have been members pretty much since the doors opened. We have been trying to go to the gym at least a couple times a week. Mike walks and swims; I walk and go to yoga flow (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT) and kickboxing (DITTO!). We have also been going to the ballroom dance classes (NELLIE HICKS IS AWESOME) for almost two years. The regular exercise and healthier eating habits have resulted in both of us losing 30 lbs. Mike's BP and cholesterol were problems before the gym opened and I am so pleased to report that both are within normal limits! I am very, very proud of how well he has done. We both feel so much better and we both feel really out of sync if things come up that don't allow us to go to the gym regularly! We are working very hard at maintaining our weight and we remind ourselves our weight loss has been the result of a lifestyle change rather than simply a diet plan.

For the first time in five years, my total bone density showed improvements in all areas. This was great news for someone my age. I have also had more energy and better overall health reports. I haven't tried to lose weight, but my measurements and body fat have improved. - Sue Stanley

How did you accomplish your success to health improvement or weight loss? Aerobics, strength training, swimming, racquetball, walking, basketball gym, climbing wall?
While I have been exercising for years, most improvement came when I added Strength and Conditioning classes two days a week and increased yoga/pilates from one to three days a week. I also take cardio classes. - Sue Stanley
